AUSTIN, TEXAS (April 25, 2018) — Land O’Lakes, Inc. donated 40,000 pounds of food to the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin yesterday. This donation is a result of an exhibit about sustainable food production sponsored by Land O’Lakes in partnership with Feeding America at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference in Austin this past March.

Titled The Food Effect, the exhibit featured a number of interactive installations, one of which, Insecure Lines, broached the problem of food insecurity. Attendees could pick up one of a number of phones to hear from some of the one in eight people who lives with hunger and those fighting to end it. For each recording that was listened to over a four-day period, Land O’Lakes pledged to make a donation to people in need through the Feeding America network of food banks.

“The future of food security and sustainable food production requires new ways of thinking, productive conversations and an understanding of many different perspectives,” said Tim Scott, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Land O’Lakes. “We launched The Food Effect at SXSW to not only educate visitors about significant issues like hunger, but to also give them the opportunity to make a positive impact in Austin.”

“We are extremely grateful for Land O’Lakes’ generous food donation,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO of Central Texas Food Bank. “This food will help provide thousands of meals to Central Texas families in need. Nearly 46,000 people, one-third of them children, count on us each week for the nutritious food they need and otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.”
