For the third year, we are proud to announce that applications are open for the Direct Member Scholarship. Your membership is important to us, and we want to support the next generation as they explore careers in the food and agriculture industries.

Three $5,000 scholarships will be awarded this year. The Direct Member Scholarship program is open to all children and grandchildren of Land O’Lakes’ direct producer members (class B and D). Students applying must currently be a high school senior entering either a two- or four-year school in fall of 2019. All majors are welcome to apply.

To apply, please go to the Community section of the member website, and click on the “Direct Member Scholarship” icon to download the application PDF.

2018 Direct Member Scholarship Winners:

In modern agriculture, we need talented individuals with a wide range of skills in all areas across the spectrum — especially in technical areas related to science and innovation. Last year, we had a competitive pool of candidates, and ultimately chose three students to receive the scholarships:

  • Yvonne Longenecker: Food Science at Penn State University (affiliated with Penn England LLC).

  • Hayley Fernandes: Animal science with a dairy focus at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (affiliated with Legacy Ranches).

  • Anna Vold: Environmental Science at Wellesley College in Massachusetts (affiliated with Dorrich Dairy).

The deadline to apply for this year’s scholarship is March 15 and all materials must be postmarked by then. If you have any questions about the scholarship or application process, please contact the Foundation at landolakesfoundation@landolakes.com.

The Land O’Lakes Foundation also supports the WinField United Careers in Agriculture scholarship to support students in agriculture and agronomy-related majors. Find out more here – note that students cannot receive multiple scholarships from Land O’Lakes.

And if you are a Wisconsin resident, a new initiative at the University of Wisconsin was announced recently that can help cover potential tuition for children of dairy farmers. Learn about that here.
